Lester Mosko Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by North Haven Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 15, 2026.
Lester Mosko, 86, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026. He was born on January 23, 1940, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Lester was one of six siblings. He was predeceased by his siblings, "Sissy" Renor Friedman, Marvin Mosko, Sandy Mosko, and Toby Liss, and is survived by his beloved sister, Millie Goodman.

Lester was the devoted husband of 53 years to Doreen Aurora Mosko. He was a loving father to Phil Harris (wife Dina Harris), Josh Mosko, and Jessica Mosko Scanlon (husband Bill Scanlon), and a proud grandfather to Liam Scanlon, Jill Scanlon, Ryan Scanlon, and Talia Tatara.

He honorably served for 17 years in the United States Navy. After his service, he pursued his passion for cooking, graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1972. He owned and operated a well-known soup shopp in Hamden for over 20 years, later continuing his love of cooking through his comfort food truck on Hillhouse Avenue in New Haven.

Lester was known for his love of chili and Cajun cuisine, his exceptional cooking, and his warm hospitality. He also dedicated time to serving others, including volunteering at Columbus House supporting the Missionaries of the Poor in Jamaica, feeding those in need in Florida, and volunteering alongside his wife at the Clelian Center.

Lester met his beloved wife, Doreen, while working at the 95 Steak House. Their marriage of 53 years reflected a lifetime of love and partnership.

He and Doreen lived in Hamden and at their East Haven beach home for over 50 years, later spending seven years in Florida before settling in Amherst, New Hampshire.

Lester was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree in Florida. He will be remembered for his service, his passion for cooking, and his deep love for family. He was also known for his strong opinions in the kitchen and his playful critique of anyone who dared to cook in his presence. His legacy lives on in the meals he shared, the family he cherished, and the memories that will forever warm the hearts of those who knew him.

The visiting hours will be Friday morning, February 20th, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:45 at The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will follow in St. Rita's Church/St. Paul VI Parish, 1620 Whitney Avenue, Hamden at 11:30 AM. Naval honors will be rendered in the church at the end of the Mass. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionaries of the Poor.
