Walter W. Kaercher Sr. was born on February 6, 1928 in West Haven, CT to Frederick and Mildred Kaercher and passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026. He was happily married for 47 years to the late Phyllis M. Kaercher, who passed away on October 22, 2024. Prior to marrying Phyllis, Walter was married to Mildred F. Kaercher who passed away in 1965.

His family moved to Jamestown, RI when he was young as his father was able to find work in a torpedo factory during WW II. After graduating from Rogers High School in Newport, RI (class of1945), he joined the United States Navy where he served on the USS Borie (DD-704) for two years. In 1948 Walter was accepted into the University of Connecticut, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1952. After graduation, Walter worked in the insurance industry, retiring in 1990 as a Loss Control Engineer for Kemper Insurance.

Walter was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis M. Kaercher,and is survived by his children: Walter Kaercher, Jr. (Kori), Marisa Esposito, and John Esposito (Melody). He is also survived by his three granddaughters whom he loved deeply: Mariana Santiago, Alexa Esposito (Sammi Myers), and Haley Kaercher.

Walter lived in North Haven, CT for 49 years and belonged to the North Haven Congregational Church. Walter and Phyllis were world travelers and passionate UConn fans. They loved the many dogs that they brought into their home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Haven, 89 Mill Road, North Haven, CT 06473. Burial will be private.
