Isabel Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 10, 2025.
Isabel Joyce (Bewick) Smith, 82, of Port Saint Lucie, FL entered her eternal rest early in the morning on Sunday, September 7, 2025, after several months of illness. She was born in Brunswick (Gary), IN to the late David R. and Agnes (Allan) Bewick. She leaves behind her husband of over 56 years, Donny, a daughter, Tammy (Charlie) Baranowski of High Ridge, MO, and a son, Kevin D. Smith, of Catonsville, MD. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Morgann (VanKley) Stambaugh, of Panama City Beach, FL, Olivia VanKley of Orlando, FL, Austin VanKley, of Panama City, FL, and Nicholas and Megan Baranowski of High Ridge, MO. She also leaves one great-grandson, William Stambaugh of Panama City Beach, FL. Her brother, David A. Bewick, of DeMotte, IN, also survives, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Isabel was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, as well as one daughter, Pamela (Smith) VanKley, and one granddaughter, Mallory VanKley.

Isabel was a graduate of Gary Edison High School and later, business college, working as a bookkeeper in a long and varied career, including maintaining the books for her husband's construction company for over 25 years. She spent much of her life in Northwest Indiana, later retiring to Franklin, IN and then to Port Saint Lucie, FL. She enjoyed her family and friends, fishing and swimming. A highlight was her trip to England and Scotland in 2013, including the town in Scotland (Dunfermline) where her parents were born before emigrating to the US in the early part of the 20th century. She rarely met a stranger she couldn't talk to and had friendships that lasted from high school in the 1950s to the present day.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to Treasure Coast Hospice or to St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital.
