Rev. Dr. Ivan Oliver Hawk III, beloved husband of Peggy Hawk, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2024.
Born in Painesville, OH, he was the son of the late Ivan O. Hawk II and Eleanor "Sis" Hawk.
In addition to the love of his life of 64 years, Peggy, he is survived by his children Angela Rossbach (Steve), Ivan O. Hawk IV (Amie), Patrick Hawk (Johanne), and Andrea Vincent (Jeff); 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Kitty Kockritz, Chris Hawk (Becky), and Janie Rourke (Kevin). He is predeceased by his brother-in-law Chris Kockritz.
Ivan earned his Doctorate of Ministry in Scripture, as well as an M.A. in Religious Studies, an M.A. in Counseling, and a B.S. in Administrative Management and Psychology.
His career began in the corporate world at Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. He worked his way up to Director of Branch Office Administration before retiring early in order to devote the remainder of his life to spiritual work. He was a Deacon in the Catholic Church for over 40 years, serving in the states of Connecticut, Vermont, and South Carolina. A gifted teacher, preacher, and author, he presided over multiple bible studies, evenings of recollection, and retreats. He loved his work as a youth minister, and enjoyed performing marriages and baptisms for family, friends, and parishioners. He also provided counseling and spiritual direction that positively impacted the lives of many people.
Ivan was a loving, selfless, protective man with a sense of humor and love of music and art that touched so many. We will never forget him and will always keep him in our hearts.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Mary Magdalene Church in
Simpsonville, SC.
