Ivan Raconteur Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 13, 2026.
Ivan Wodehouse Raconteur, nee David John Cox, 62, of Winsted, passed away March 5th, 2026 after a month in hospice, following several years of health challenges.

As his chosen name suggests, he was an engaging and witty storyteller, and his column, Curmudgeon's Corner, provided his readers with local commentary as well as thought-provoking and humorous takes on life.

He was born in Duluth, Minnesota to Gerald Cox and Barbara (Korpi) Cox, Uttley.

He attended Denfeld High School, North Hennepin Community College, Des Moines Area Community College, and Normandale Community College.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Oddio Nib; brother Dennis (Linda) Cox-Townsend, and niece Beth Cox-Townsend. He is survived by his brother Dean Cox (Tammy) and his "favorite" sister, Deborah Seelinger (Tim), several nieces, nephews, and friends including the "Cheezeballs."

Ivan was an avid reader and writer from an early age. He enjoyed many pursuits and hobbies during his life including fly fishing, kayaking, beer and wine making, golf, photography, and painting.

For over 20 years Ivan's passion for words and his high standards for news were present at the Herald Journal in Winsted, MN as staff, editor, and columnist.

His book of poetry, Illumination, was put together with friends from his writing group in 2024.

A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion; 161 First Street, Winsted, MN on Sunday, April 19th, at 1:00 pm with refreshments to follow. Please feel free to wear a colorful Hawaiian shirt or a jaunty hat to honor our dear friend.
