Ivan John Wessel

Ivan John Wessel, age 82, of Brownstown, passed away, peacefully with his family by his side, at his home on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Ivan was born in Tampico on May 6, 1943, to the late Wilbert H. & Viola Steinkamp Wessel. He graduated from Tampico High School in 1961. On July 7, 1963, Ivan married Shirley Ann Williams Wessel, and she survives in Brownstown.

Ivan retired from Cummins Engine Company after 34 years of employment. He attended Chuck Wagon Fellowship in Bedford. Ivan enjoyed Chuck Wagon racing, driving tractors, riding in parades with his horses and wagons, and farming with his horses.

Ivan is survived by his wife, Shirley; children: Brad (Missy) Wessel, Roger Wessel, & Sherri (Tim) Keithley; grandchildren: Stefini (Evens) Romilus, Whitney (Dylan) Hale, Wesley Wessel, Gracie (Steffen) Lewis, Peyton (Skyler) Sitterding, Caden Cardinal, Cody & Justin Gardner; great grandchildren: Kai, Tatum, Quincy, Brecken, Bode, Lawrence, Linton, & Rosanelle; brothers: Lelard Wessel & William Wessel; sisters: Audra (Mike) Deaton & Opal (Ronald) Roark; sister-in-law, Judy Wessel.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; son, Eric Wessel; brothers: Kelso Wessel, Kenneth Wessel, Debron Wessel, Edward Wessel, Walter Wessel, & Wilbert Wessel; sisters: Rosa Nell & Violet Wischmeier; sisters-in-law: Eunice Wessel, Juanita Wessel, Bernice Wessel, Mary Lou Wessel, & Wilma Wessel, Donna Wessel, & Esther Wessel.

Funeral Services for Ivan will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with Jeff Crawley & Ben McCory officiating. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Chuck Wagon Fellowship.

The Chuck Wagon Fellowship will be provide a meal at Lutheran Central School following the burial and all family and friends are invited to attend.
