Izet Selmanovic

Izet Selmanovic, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on April 25, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 78.
Born on February 14, 1947-"Valentine's Day a long, long time ago," as he liked to say-in Sjenica, Yugoslavia, Izet lived a life rich in intellect, resilience, and deep compassion. He earned a degree in Russian Language and Literature from the Pedagoška Akademija in Sarajevo and spent many years teaching before becoming the director of the Centar za Kulturu Sarajevo. During the Bosnian War, he served in the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 1997, Izet immigrated with his wife and son to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he rebuilt his life with humility and strength. He worked tirelessly in a number of jobs-painter, newspaper delivery driver, factory worker, computer assembler, and finally, a bus driver-always with an unshakable work ethic to provide for his family.
Izet was a quiet soul who found joy in simple pleasures: fishing, reading, and spending time with his beloved dogs, Oli and Waldo. He was deeply loved by his family and will be remembered for his gentle wisdom, sharp wit, and unyielding love.
He is survived by his wife, Jelena Selmanovic; his son, Damir Selmanovic; and his daughter, Mirna Selmanovic.
Izet's life was a quiet testament to perseverance, grace, and unwavering love. He gave more than he had to give-and left this world better than he found it. He will be missed beyond words and remembered beyond measure.
