James “Jim” Edwin Stewart, 78, of Waco, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025. Jim was born on Christmas Day, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas, to the late James and Doris Stewart.
Jim lived a simple life filled with curiosity, kindness, and a love for the little things that made him happy. From a young age, he was fascinated by trains—their steady rhythm, their sense of adventure, and the way the pieces all worked together. That love stayed with him through life, as he collected magazines and photos of trains.
He also had a passion for collecting newspaper clippings and often shared the interesting stories he found with family and friends. Jim had a fondness for older things—he often said they were “made better and lasted longer”—a reflection of his own steady, enduring nature.
One of Jim’s greatest joys was playing marbles, a game he loved throughout his life. Many treasured family memories were made during those marble games, filled with laughter and friendly competition.
Jim attended Bethel Methodist Church of Robinson, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Doris Stewart.
Jim is survived by his loving sister, Ann Atkinson; niece, Audra Monger; nephew, Heath Atkinson; four great-nephews, Colton and Dillon Atkinson and Zach and Zane Monger; and many cousins, including his dear and special cousin, Gail Long. He will be remembered with great love by all who knew him.
A celebration of Jim’s life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the pavilion in Robinson Cemetery, in Robinson, TX, with Rev. Jerry Freedman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to: Bethel Methodist Church, 104 S. Old Robinson Rd., Robinson, TX 76706.
The family would like to thank Community Healthcare of Texas – Providence Hospice and Ascension Living Providence Village for the love and care extended to their loved one.
