Mrs. J. Delane Griffin, 63, died Thursday morning (December 24, 2009) at her residence following a brief illness. She was a native and life-long resident of Ware County. She was preceded in death by her father, John L. Walker, a sister, Deloris Moore, and a grandson, Jamie Carter. She retired in May of this year as the Nursing Director at St. Illa Center of Satilla Community Services. She had a respected career in the healthcare profession for over thirty years. She has been described as providing kind and compassionate care for her patients and was also highly respected among her colleagues and had helped many through the years find employment. She was a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church and was Vice-President of the Okefenokee Pilot Club. She was a long-time supporter of the local cancer walks and had been associated with the American Heart Association. She had also been involved with many other community service projects. Survivors include two daughters, Johnna Carter (husband James) of Brantley County and Daniell Lightfoot (Husband Billy) of Nahunta; she was fondly referred to as �Momma Dee� by her four grandchildren, Brandan Groover (wife Jenny) of Waynesville, Walker Lee Carter of Brantley County, Cassie Laine Arnold and James Calvin �J.C.� Arnold both of Nahunta; two great grandchildren, Tyler Allen and Zane Groover; her mother, Darcille L. Walker of Waycross; a sister, Diane Sapp (husband Tommy) of Abbeville; her former husband, James D. Griffin of Brantley County and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday (December 27, 2009) at Music Funeral Home. Members of the Okefenokee Pilot Club are asked to gather at the funeral home at 1:30 PM Sunday to serve as honorary pallbearers.The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Saturday evening at Music Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be sent to the Okefenokee Pilot Club, 1002 Dean Drive, Waycross, GA 31501. Sympathy can be expressed by signing the online registry at www.musicfuneralhome.com.
