From his early years, J. Jay was vibrant and full of life, instilling a profound love for music in his children. He found immense pleasure in teaching them, often spending treasured moments together as they explored melodies and rhythms. Music brought him joy, be it through playing the piano or passionately joining friends for karaoke nights, where his laughter and enthusiasm were infectious. His love for the San Francisco 49ers was also a defining trait, as he delighted in sharing the thrill of each game with family and friends.
J. Jay is survived by his beloved family, including his mother Aina Blair, stepfather Tony Blair, and father Russell Russ. He was a devoted father to his sons, J. Jay DeKnikker, Gage Russ, Davin Russ, and Bryson Russ, as well as stepdaughter Darian Dishon. His sister, Robin Russ-Newman, and brother, Jeremy Blair, along with nephew Donald Dermody, carry cherished memories of his warmth and laughter. He is also survived by the mother of Darian, Gage and Davin, Annie Daily; and the mother of Brandon and J. Jay, Cynthia DeKnikker; and his best friend, Sandra Jones. Together with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, they mourn his passing yet celebrate a life well-lived.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, particularly as he now reunites in peace with his son Brandon DeKnikker and his brother Ricky Russ, who have preceded him in death.
