Betty Jean Gutterman

Betty Gutterman, aged 86, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026. Born on June 9, 1939, in Hartford, Kentucky, to Jesse and Laura (Bryant) Smith, Betty lived a life devoted to her faith, family, and community.

A dedicated member of the Valley Station Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Betty found strength and comfort in her spiritual community. She was a loving wife, devoted to her husband of 62 years, Robert Gutterman. Betty cherished her children—daughter Julie (Daniel) Boston, and sons Robby (AnnMargaret) Gutterman and Alan (Angelina) Gutterman—and took great pride in her grandchildren, Chelsea (Sanjeev) Bedasee, Mariah Boston, Kimberlee (Kyle) Haycraft, Andy (Destiny) Gutterman, Peyton York, Xander York, Emma York, Tristan Gutterman; and great-grandchildren, Florence Bedasee and Logan Bedasee.

Betty was known for her skill and passion as a dog groomer and for raising Keeshonden dogs. She enjoyed following her favorite basketball team, the Louisville Cardinals, and shared many joyful moments watching the sport she loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Lemon Smith and Laura Smith, her granddaughter Amanda Boston, and several siblings. She is survived by her sister Linda Sue (Ervin) Warnell, brother Danny Smith, and numerous extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A memorial service to honor Betty’s life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 12126 Lower River Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40272. The family kindly requests that contributions in Betty’s memory be made to JW.org.
