Obituary published on Legacy.com by Benton County Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2024.
J. Dennis Parmele went home to Jesus on Thursday, February 15,2024. He was loved dearly and will be
missed by his family, neighbors (AKA extended family) and friends.
Dennis had a passion for music at a very young age. Guitar was the first instrument he had, and he
learned how to play trombone in school. In Junior High and High School he played guitar for "The Rock &
Roll Teens" according to his younger brother Robert. Later in life some of the best memories his family
will hold dear are the family get-togethers where they would all sit around a circle and play guitars,
banjos, fiddles, ukuleles, spoons and cow bones that they'd use for percussion. Of course, they'd all
pitch in on the vocals.
He married the love of his life, Loretta (Lane) Parmele in 1964. He always said that Loretta was the one
that came looking for him at the grocery store where he worked, but it was Dennis that would break out
in a cold sweat and hide behind the milk coolers to watch her as she walked around the store looking for
him. When he finally got the courage to ask her out, they ended up getting engaged in 1963 and the rest
is history.
He was the best dad anyone would be blessed to have. He always told his kids they could do anything
they set their minds to and always put them on a pedestal so that they knew it too. He always worried
that he spent too much time working and not enough time being a dad, but the only thing they
remember is him being present whenever he was needed. Whether it was being a sparing partner for
his son learning to box (and taking some pretty hard punches when his son got really good), or spending
hours teaching his daughter Algebra after a long day at work.
Dennis was born on August 15, 1944 in
Wichita, KS. He was the oldest of three children of Jack and
Marjorie (DeVoe) Parmele.
