J. Garvin Warden

Jacob Garvin Warden Jr., 76 years old, of Tahoe City, California, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away on April 1, 2024. Garvin was born on Sept. 25, 1947, in Cleveland, OH, to Charlotte Andresen and Dr. Jacob Garvin Warden. He spent most of his childhood in Hagerstown, MD, where he met his first wife, Peggy. After graduating from Mercersburg Academy (PA) and Denison University (OH), Garvin joined the U.S. Navy, where he graduated from Officer Candidate School and served for three years (primarily leading a diving-demolition team), achieving the rank of Lieutenant JG. After retiring from the Navy, Garvin graduated with an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, launching his 45-year career in the banking and financial services industry. Garvin's life and work took him to many places, but Pittsburgh became his adopted hometown. He and Peggy were long-time residents of Fox Chapel. Garvin also spent decades in the Pittsburgh business community, including nearly 20 years with Cornerstone Capital Advisors (the boutique consulting firm he co-founded in 1988). Among his many accomplishments with Cornerstone, Garvin was most proud of his work as interim CEO for the Pittsburgh Penguins and as interim CFO for Tollgrade Communications. In 2004, Garvin met Sharita, his current wife (and a long-time Mount Lebanon resident). Garvin and Sharita relocated to CA in 2006, where they immediately fell in love with the Lake Tahoe region, eventually retiring to their mountainside "forever home" in Tahoe City. Despite these California ties, Garvin remained a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins until the end. In addition to his beloved Sharita, Garvin is survived by six children, eight grandchildren, his brother, Steve; first wife, Peggy; and countless other friends and relatives. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. Memorial donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and/or the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. Garvin's family has entrusted his care to TRUCKEE-TAHOE MORTUARY (Truckee, CA).
