After serving in the Navy during World War II, he attended the University of Nebraska, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and a lifelong Cornhusker fan. Go Big Red! He began his business career in the insurance industry with The Equitable in New York and Chicago, followed by a long and successful 30 year career with Transamerica Occidental Life Insurance. While living in New York he met the love of his life, Kathleen Elizabeth (Nicholson). Building a life together, they lived in Southern California in Brentwood, Encino and Palos Verdes (after four years in Des Moines). Jack was active in his church in the communities in which they lived. He was a dedicated member of the Scottish Rite, first as a Mason, and then in the Shrine, leading the San Pedro lodge in 1978. He was an active member of the Palos Verdes Breakfast Club for many years. Jack and Kathleen enjoyed travel throughout the US, Canada, Europe and Asia. Shortly after retiring, they built a home in Lake San Marcos where they enjoyed the beautiful climate and scenery for 27 years, and also made many close friends. In retirement Jack pursued his passion for golf and devoted time and energy as an active member of The Lake Church. He was a member of the Finance Board and editor of the church newsletter.
