OBITUARY
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things
has passed away." Revelations 21:4
Jack Jerome Atwater, 71, entered into eternal rest on July 10, 2025. He was born the third child of Celesta M. Atwater (Franklin), in
Nashville, Tennessee. He enjoyed his life with three other siblings, Henry Atwater, II, Beverly A. Kindall and James G. Franklin, who all predeceased him.
During his life, Jack attended regular Sunday service with his mother at Schrader Lane Church of Christ where he professed his faith at an early age. He attended Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools from K-12th grade. Jack graduated in 1974, from Stratford High School with a vocational honor in Art. With this natural ability to draw, especially pencil and charcoal works, he went on to Watkins Institute night school to further develop this creative passion. Jack, further, attended Aquinos Jr. College in the vocational industrial program for 2 years.
His meticulous skills for painting captured the attention of several companies who employed him as a creative painter for 2 years. He, also, worked 5 years with Howard Construction Company and 3 years with Rokeby, as a lead painter working on a different medium.
When you think of Jack, there were some unique characteristics that he portrayed: he never met a stranger, had a great sense of humor, sociable, dependable and would help anyone in need. He was, also, an avid scavenger for pennies and loose
change in hopes of finding the one of true value. Many believed that his intention was to provide a college fund for his granddaughters.
Jack found love and from this relationship, his pride and joy was born, Rochel A. Moore, his only beautiful loving daughter. Many years later, Jack became a granddaddy to two lovely girls: Briana K. Willis and Kennedy E. Cato. All of whom surrounded him with much love and he would give them the world, too.
As his health began to decline and he started to face many challenges, his devoted sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Edward cared for him for over 54 years. Jack never let these challenges stop him from living life, listening to old school
music, taking trips with family and eating a McDonald's cheeseburger, french fries and drinking a large diet coke-just about every day. He also was a passionate collector of hats and T-shirts representing favorite sports teams, African American
tributes and racing cars. In his wardrobe collection, he had over 112 hats and a gross inventory of unworn T-shirts. He enjoyed assembling model cars and had a vast selection, at one time. While Jack didn't actively participate in playing the lottery, he would tell anyone he met to play 449 and 944. Many times, people would come back and say, "Hey man, I won!" Jack's infectious spirit triggered instant love by many of the neighbors, often calling them grandmama and grandpa while sitting on the porch waiting patiently for someone to just pass by.
He spent the last few years concerned about the well-being of his great nephews, Miles, Parker, Kru and Kreed making sure that they had what they wanted and needed for birthdays and Christmas. However, Jack's personal Christmas list was longer than the children's.
Days prior to his death, Jack joked and couldn't believe that he was the last and oldest living member of the Atwater family. Jack's loving spirit and kind heartedness will truly be missed by all who knew him.
We will always LOVE you, Jack!
