Mr. Birmingham was one of the nicest, most honest souls I ever met. From his soft side to his "hard man" and his work ethic was outstanding. I am sad to hear of his passing last year. He gave me advice in life that I still practice today. He was a Winner, and a Warrior. He loved his Family. His Humor was second to none. God Bless you, Jack.

One extra special time, long ago, I remember asking to go along on a hike with "the guys" during a lunch break at a board meeting in Juneau. It was winter, lots of dry snow on the ground and we drove out the road to the MatSu glacier. Norm, Dick, Jack and me. I was in "skirt" work clothes, a borrowed jacket and low heels, and definitely ill-prepared for the easy hike. The wonderment of that day has never left me. As I struggled and lagged behind, I heard the sounds of birds ahead, calling to one another. Unbelievable chattering sounds in the extremely cold air (below zero) although the sun was shining and a heavy, dry mist arose from the ground. The birds kept chattering like a noisy playground at a school yard. But there weren´t any birds to be seen! Just these amazing men "talking" in bird language - calling out to one another. They had allowed me a glimpse into their perfect world. Truly music to all ears and a moment frozen in time - never ever forgotten.

For Paula and Grant:
Jack - a red, white and true-blue American helicopter pilot and lawyer! Until recently, as our country seems on the brink of something huge - I am reminded of the significance of the bond of friendship and camaraderie Jack held with others who helped lead AACA "back-in-the-day". Aviation leaders by first name - John H. and Bob H., Dick, Orin, Bob Ens., Grant, Bill, Larry, Cindy, Jerry, Bob J. and Bob Eng., and many others - shared with gusto, wartime military service and Alaska commercial flying experiences with one another - bonded by the commonality of love for aviation, dedication to flying safety, and love for country. Jack was like a big brother to me, always thoughtful, kind and sincere in helping me understand a complicated industry. He was a devoted husband first, and loved his family far beyond everything else - boasting often (around the board room table) of Paula´s building projects and Grant´s "smarts" and quick wit! He was, and always will be, a mighty American hero in my eyes. Rest well dear friend... most certainly yours was a life well-lived.

One time fishing on Theodore creek I found myself on a steep bear trail up a bank of thick alder brush. Right at the top and about 2 feet away I heard a very loud WOOF!!!! It was Jack with a superb Imation. Over the years I found a few times to get even with him. Truly a treasured friend
