Jack C. Boughton, age 81, of Sturgis, Michigan, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
He was born October 10, 1944, in Sturgis, Michigan, the son of the late Charles E. and Violet A. (Robbins) Boughton. Jack was a lifelong Sturgis resident and a proud graduate of Sturgis High School, Class of 1962. He continued his education at Glen Oaks Community College, earning an associate's degree.
On March 22, 1969, Jack married the love of his life, Mary Ruth Alley in Kokomo, Indiana. They shared 43 wonderful years together before her passing on August 13, 2012.
Jack was a talented engineer by profession, known for his skill, dedication, and creativity. He retired from Precision Speed Equipment in Sturgis after many years of committed work. Throughout his career, he also served as Chief Engineer at Insta-Matic Corporation in Elkhart, Indiana, and owned and operated Three Rivers Glass Company in Three Rivers and Sportsman's Corner in Sturgis.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and a Life Member of Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW. He was also a member of LaGrange American Legion Post #215, St. Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman Club, and Eagles Lodge #1314. His hobbies reflected his adventurous spirit: classic cars, woodworking, shooting, fishing, and quietly watching the deer in his backyard.
A proud veteran, Jack served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of Corporal. He earned numerous honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, and two Purple Hearts.
Jack is survived by his children, Amy (Steve) Allan of Three Rivers and Bryan (Candy) Boughton of Augusta; grandchildren, Paige (Ryan) Worth, Dean Boughton, Max Boughton, Jacquelyn (Charles) Detmar, and Maddison Allan; great-grandchildren, Charles, Theodore, Corbin, Tilly, and Magnus; niece, Wendy Gianino of Montana; and nephew, Johnny Boughton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Mary Ruth, sister Judy Colleen Gianino, and brother John Boughton.
In honoring Jack's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Eagles Lodge #1314, 1207 W. Chicago Rd., Sturgis. Burial of his remains will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan, with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard and Fort Custer Honor Guard.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with arrangements.
