Jack Dan, age 96, passed away December 20, 2025, He was born July 31, 1929 to Samuel and Ruth Dan.
He attended John Strange Elementary School and Broad Ripple High School where he ran on the track team.
After graduation, Jack joined the U.S. Marine Corp, serving from 1948 to 1952, including participating in the Wonsan-Hungnam-Chosin Campaign in Northern Korea as a member of C1 III, Ninth Marine Corps Reserve and Recruitment District during the Korean War.
After his service, he began a career at Western Electric, retiring as a Supervisor. After retirement, he and his brother Bob founded Buck Creek Builders, building homes in Cumberland.
He married Alice Graham on March 3, 1976. They were long time members of Cumberland Christian Church. Jack was also a member of Telecom Pioneers of America, and a charter member of Indy East Rotary Club, serving for 33 years, and as president twice. He and Alice enjoyed traveling, especially by train, including mission work for the church. He also had a great talent and passion for woodworking, making cabinets, tables, toys, squirrel feeders, jewelry boxes, and many other projects in his home workshop.
He is survived by sisters Marti Gibson and Mildred Ledgerwood, and by children from a previous marriage, Jack Dan, James (Sharon) Dan, and Linda (Steve) Hamrick, as well as five grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alice, and by his brothers Tom and Bob.
A Visitation will be held at Cumberland Christian Church, 39 N Starter St, Cumberland IN, on Tuesday January 13, 2026 at 10:00am, followed by a Service at 11:00am. Afterwards, there will be lunch downstairs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cumberland Christian Church, Telecom Pioneers of America, and Indy East Rotary Club.
