Jack Lee Derowitsch, the son of Lloyd & Arlene (Harmes) Derowitsch, was born on February 18, 1944, on the family farm, near Deshler, Nebraska.
Jack attended high school in Belleville, Kansas 1958 to 1961, completed his GED and enlisted in the Navy on July 1, 1961. He was an Air Man Apprentice and Air Plane Dispatch Clerk on the USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) up to February 19, 1965. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Naval Reserve from February 20, 1965 to June 30, 1967. Following his Navy honorable discharge and a civilian break, Jack enlisted in the Army National Guard Reserves July 13, 1987. He was stationed at the 995th Maintenance Company in Belleville, Kansas. He started as a Track Vehicle Repairer and gained rank as an E6 Staff Sergeant on November 8, 1994. He retired with honorable discharge on February 17, 2004. During his service, he completed two tours, one in Vietnam and one in Desert Storm. Jack gained four medals during his Navy service and 17 medals during the Army National Guard service. He retired serving a total of 22 years.
In his civilian life, he worked several miscellaneous jobs throughout the United States. One being a motorcycle police officer in Arizona. He had a passion for law enforcement and attended the Universal detective - Extensive Training division in Universal City, California.
January 2006 he retired his Supervisor role for the City of Salina Water Distribution Department. He briefly worked as a driver for Conklin Cars and then went on into another role as a Maintenance Liaison for the United Building.
Jack passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020, from COVID-19 at the Salina Regional Health Center, in Salina, Kansas at the age of 76. A Cremation was planned.
Jack was a Christian man who loved family and friends and was known for his multiple skills. He enjoyed Leather Craft, Woodworking, Outdoor Gardening, Indoor Plants, Camping, Fishing, Golfing, Bowling and Gambling. He was known for his great sense of humor and had no problem with being very straightforward and direct.
He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife, Mary (Engelbert) Derowitsch.
His Surviving Children: Jack Derowitsch Jr., Marty Derowitsch, Willard Derowitsch, Ryan Derowitsch, and his Step Children: Erica (Horne) Hernandez, Tammy Kochevar; Kim Chandler Hernandez and his 8 beautiful grandchildren.
His Surviving Siblings - two sisters: Sue (Derowitsch) Kearns, & Marla (Derowitsch) Wilson (Jerry) and one brother Lloyd (Ging) Derowitsch (Sue).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son Timothy Derowitsch
Jack's Celebration of Life is Post COVID and scheduled at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home on Saturday May 29, 2021, 1:00 pm followed by Graveside services with Military Honors at Chester Nebraska Cemetery in Chester, Nebraska.
