Jack Shuford Finger, 90, a beloved member of the Haywood County community, departed this life on January 2, 2026. Born on January 12, 1935, to the late John and Sarah Mehaffey Finger in Haywood County. Jack lived a life rich with experiences and relationships that reflected his laid-back, loving, and easygoing nature. He was known for his passion for the outdoors, with a particular fondness for fly fishing, where he found peace and joy in the serene beauty of nature.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Olin Finger, and all of his siblings. The family bond was a cornerstone of Jack’s life, and though he is now reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him, his spirit remains alive in the hearts of those he touched.
Jack's professional journey took him into the realm of Right of Way Acquisition for the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where his dedication and integrity shone brightly. His education at Western Carolina University laid the foundation for a fulfilling career that contributed significantly to the public good. A veteran, Jack served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, demonstrating his commitment and service to his country—an experience that shaped his character and deepened his appreciation for life and freedom. Throughout his years, Jack was a steadfast presence, adored and respected by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by several nephews and nieces, who carry forward the legacy of love and camaraderie he instilled in their lives.
He is survived by his extended family, including many Nieces and Nephews, and his Caregivers.
A graveside service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on January 8, 2026, at the Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Waynesville, North Carolina, beginning at 11:00 AM. Friends and family will gather to honor Jack’s memory, sharing stories, laughter, and the cherished moments that defined his life.
