Jack Hayles Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Denham Springs on Sep. 9, 2025.
Jack, age 72, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025. He was a resident of Livingston, LA. Jack proudly served his country in the United States National Guard. He was an extremely hard worker who dedicated many years to DOW Chemical. Jack loved football and was a proud Alabama fan. Known for his infectious whistle and sharp wit, he brought joy, laughter, and a touch of surprise to everyone who knew him. Jack found peace in the simple things like fishing with his grandkids, working with his hands in the woodshop, and watching the birds and squirrels that he lovingly fed every day. So loved by nature, the animals would come running from the woods at the sight of him. Brutally honest but endlessly sweet, Jack never held back but always made you laugh. Whether on the porch, in the shop, or by the lake, he was full of stories, surprises, and a kind of fun you couldn't predict. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a whistle in the wind. Roll Tide, Jack you will be missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Rebecca Steele Hayles; daughter, Hayley Hayles Matherne (Erich); son, Jack Allen Hayles Jr. (Laura); sisters, Sarah Garrett, Ruby Sager, Estelle Bartley; brothers, Joe Edward Hayles, Larry Hayles (Penny); and grandchildren, Peyton Matherne (Ana Grace Hardison), Reed Matherne, Rylee Hayles, and Gracie Hayles. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, John Hinson Hayles and Cannie Hayles; brother, John "BoBo" Hayles; and sister, Barbara Homan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center or the Prostate Cancer Foundation in honor of Mr. Jack. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home at 7738 Florida Blvd. Denham Springs, LA 70726 on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until the memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Craig Hayles will officiate with interment to follow in Gateway Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Livingston, LA.
