Billie McCartney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home - Denham Springs on Mar. 11, 2026.
Billie Ronnie McCartney Jr., 59, passed away peacefully at his home in Denham Springs on March 9, 2026, after a five-year battle with kidney cancer. Born January 13, 1967, at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, Billie was raised in Baton Rouge and attended Wildwood Elementary, Kenilworth Middle School, and Lee High School, graduating in 1985. During his school years he participated in Boy Scouts, wrestling, and football, where friends remember him by the nickname "Boom Boom Belinda." Though he spent his childhood in Baton Rouge, Billie built his life and legacy in Denham Springs, the community he proudly called home.

Billie later returned to school and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Before entering the accounting field, he often described himself as a "jack of all trades." His first job as a teenager was working in a bean field, and he carried that same work ethic throughout his life. In later years he worked for Volunteers of America.

On August 9, 2002, Billie married Joy Marie Hebert McCartney in Livingston Parish. The two met years earlier at Rick and Robin's club when Billie asked Joy to dance. She responded by asking if he knew how to jitterbug. As it turned out, he did, and the rest is history.

Billie was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Joy McCartney; his children, Bailea McCartney, Francanna McCartney, Heather McCartney, Jeremy Robin, and Jennifer McCartney; and his grandchildren, Carly Robin, Blazzin Robin, Jaxston Robin, Cali Robin, and Saylor Chauvin.

He is also survived by numerous siblings. His maternal siblings include Johnny Saucier (Linda), Janet McCartney, Michelle Acosta, Gerald McCartney, Wendy Doubleday, Lesa Doubleday, and Donald Doubleday. His paternal siblings include Winnie Sonnier (Johnny), Rebecca Richard (Kenneth), Denean Joubert (Douglas), Karina Sonnier, and April McCartney Thomas (Eric).

Billie was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Ronnie McCartney Sr. and Jerry Louise Daigle Doubleday, as well as his step parents Anna McCartney and Donald Doubleday, niece J'Lyn McCartney, and brother in laws Eddie Acosta and Blane Sonnier.

A devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Denham Springs, Billie gave generously of his time through Catechesis religious education and as a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. If the church needed help, Billie was often the first to step forward.

He was also a founding member of Krewe Bras Moi Chue and a dedicated member of the Krewe of Denham Springs, serving in many roles including Treasurer, Sponsorship Chair, First Vice President and Ball Captain, Second Vice President, Parade Captain, and Float Captain. In 2026 he was honored as the Krewe's Honorary King in recognition of his years of service and dedication.

Billie also coached youth sports, serving as a softball coach for his daughters Bailea and Jennifer and as a soccer coach during their younger years.

Known as a true people person, Billie never met a stranger. He loved entertaining, cooking, carpentry, home renovations, cake decorating, floral arranging, and wood whittling-hobbies he jokingly referred to as his "woman hobbies." His favorite place was the patio at home, where friends and family gathered often for food, laughter, and LSU football games. His dogs Lily and Ray were faithful companions there, and Ray was known to share a warm beer with Billie during game days.

A devoted LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints fan, Billie's favorite song was "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones.

Family traditions meant everything to him. One favorite was the "pajama run," when Billie would send everyone to change into pajamas and head out for ice cream whenever someone in the family was having a hard day.

Billie was known as a gentle giant-fun-loving, faithful, loyal, and a man of his word. He believed strongly in faith, honesty, hard work, and treating others with kindness and respect. He often reminded the young men in his life what it meant to be a gentleman, though friends knew one firm rule: you could take a beer or a shot from the outside refrigerator, but you never took one of Billie's Diet Cokes.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 7738 Florida Blvd., Denham Springs, Louisiana, on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 865 Hatchell Lane, Denham Springs, Louisiana, on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bailea McCartney, Jeremy Robin, Seth Buell, Jacob Beaubouef, Joseph Daigle, and Tommy Perrone. Honorary pallbearers are Ernest Vasquez, Raymond Nichols, and Todd Crafton.

Billie leaves behind not only his family but a community of friends-many of them the "second children" who grew up in his home. His doors were always open, his porch lights were always on, and anyone who walked through them was treated like family.
