Jack Stewart Henderson

Jack was born in Richmond Virginia on September 28, 1932. The family returned to Alberta while Jack was still very young and eventually made Acme their home.

After graduating in 1951 he left home for the big city, Calgary, where he worked at different odd jobs and, on February 25, 1952 was accepted for the Calgary Fire Department. In 1953 he met Anne Lazore, his future wife. In 1987 he retired as a District Chief and, with their truck and 5th Wheel trailer, headed out on the road for 8 years. In 1990, after seeing all the provinces and most of the United States and making many new friends, they bought a cottage near Sicamous. As only he could, he began making more new friends to add to the ever-growing list. They came back to Calgary permanently in 1997 and enjoyed the good life of summers in Sicamous and winters in Calgary. He was an active member of the Retired Firefighter Association, where he found his passion in the Calgary Firefighters Museum. Jack volunteered for many years with the Museum and it was at a holiday event at the Museum on December 13th that he succumbed to a heart attack. He was surrounded by loving friends and fellow volunteers.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Anne in 2016 and his daughter Karen Bayerle in 2019. He is survived by his daughter Deborah Henderson, of Calgary, who will sadly miss him. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Calgary Firefighters Museum or the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society.
