Jack William Holland left this earth for his heavenly home on May 7, 2024. He passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in
Vancouver, Washington.
Jack was born in Spokane, Washington June 2, 1948 to Janice Emert Richards (AKA Holland) and Paul Holland. He grew up in various communities in and Washington. Jack's fondest childhood memories were of his time in Coos Bay, Oregon. He retained from that period an intense love for the Oregon Coast. It was always his favorite get away and photographic theme. In Coos Bay Jack built a strong work ethic and the reputation of star paper boy. Jack graduated from David Douglas High School in Portland, Oregon in 1965. Jack had a brief marriage right out of High School that produced one son Peter Holland who predeceased his father.
Jack married Allene Carol Finley November 28, 1981 at Evangel Baptist Church in Portland, OR. This was a marriage that lasted 43 ears until Jack's death. Initially the couple lived in Portland, Oregon enjoying the beautiful view of Mt. Hood from their Mt. Tabor home. Into this home they welcomed 2 sons. Benjamin Jay born 4/11/1985 and Joshua Walter born 1/13/1990. In 1990 Jack and his family moved to
Vancouver, Washington where he remained until his death.
Jack was a faithful employee of Union Pacific Railroad for 51 years. He worked out of Portland Oregon traveling North to Seattle, Washington and East to Hermiston, Oregon as a brakeman and conductor. His life saw many changes on the railroad. Many life long friendships were forged on the rails. Jack leaves, through his work, a legacy of faithful service to UPRR, their customers and countless consumers that benefited from his service. As a knowledgeable, patient and kind instructor, Jack enjoyed opportunities to train new conductor/brakemen through the years. In 2015 Jack was honored by Union Pacific with a celebration in Salt Lake City commemorating his 50 years of committed service to the railroad. He went on to continue this work until retiring in 2018.
During their empty nest years Jack enjoyed traveling with Allene, cruising to nearly every continent and traveling extensively in the US and Canada. However Jack's greatest joy was always his family. He was blessed with 3 grandsons: Jacob Hansen 8/27/2002, Cooper Holland 12/17/2017 and Gifford Holland. 12/27/2022. The best days were those days when he and Allene watched Cooper and Gifford. Jack described himself as not being retired but being a professional grandpa..
Jack was a committed Christian his entire life. He was active in various churches over his lifetime. He contributed to charities that upheld the values that were the basis of his life, spiritual and public. His relationship with Jesus was his anchor amidst the ups and downs of life.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Allene, of 43 years, 2 sons and their families: Ben and Whitney Holland of Amboy, WA; and Joshua and Lindsey Hansen-Holland of
Vancouver, WA. Also he is survived by 3 siblings Karen Holtrof, Mark Holland and Tracey Grant and their respective families.
Jack will be missed by all his family. He is irreplaceable leaving a hole that cannot be filled. However there is comfort in the faith Jack and Allene have always shared. We look forward to being reunited in paradise with our loving God.
