Jack Horne

1935 - 2026

Jack D. Horne, a cherished member of the Smithville community, left this world on January 13, 2026, just two days shy of his 91st birthday. He was preceded in death by parents Relder V. Horne and Ruby Jewel Anthony Horne, brother Jerry Horne and cherished sisters Marion Horne McWhirter, Marcelle Horne Medley, Jimmie Horne Little, Martha Horne Holland and Linda Horne Cadden. Born on January 15, 1935, in Smithville, MS, Jack's life was a tapestry woven with threads of devotion, pride, and unyielding spirit.

As a dedicated father, he is survived by his three daughters, Claudia Horne, Jackie Lenderman (Jimmy), and Kelly Strong (Mark), his devoted son, Wade (Staci) and his honorary daughter Cindy Gosa. He was a proud brother to Carolyn Murphy, Jack's legacy lives on through his grandchildren-Brooke McCafferty (Ronnie), Matthew Lenderman (Angela), Kelby Horne, Mason Glenn (Sydney), Aubrey Glenn, Jodi Minor Williams , Kade Minor, Luke Strong, Anna Strong, and Jack Strong-and the laughter and joy of his great-grandchildren: Kate McCafferty, Jack McCafferty, James Matthew Lenderman, Jr., and Brooks Lenderman. He also leaves behind cherished nieces, nephews, and special friends, all of whom will carry forward the light that Jack ignited in their lives.

Jack's life was marked not only by the warmth of family gatherings-which evoked nostalgia and cultivated love-but also by his service to his country. A proud member of the United States Marine Corps he served as a Sergeant E-4 in Korea during that conflict. Later he was awarded full military retirement from the Mississippi Army National Guard which included active-duty service during Desert Storm. The Marine Sharpshooter Badge for marksmanship was one of his ribbons and a source of immense pride. His military service deeply influenced his character; he lived his life embodying the values learned in service-commitment, honor, and camaraderie. Jack retired with 28 years of service as Maintenance Superintendent at Mueller Brass Copper Tube where his work ethic was evident.

Jack greeted each day with steadfast determination finding time to enjoy breakfast at Jack's with dear friends, fostering bonds and sharing laughter over many cups of coffee. His philosophy of life echoed love and gratitude, and he seldom missed an opportunity to express how proud he was of his family-a testimony to his deep-rooted values and affections.

He was married to his beloved wife, Patsy, for over 66 years, a partnership that served as a beacon of love and devotion. Her memory, like Jack's, will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew them.

The journey of his life will be honored through a Visitation from 12 pm until 2 pm, and Celebration of Life beginning at 2 pm on January 17, 2026, at Smithville Baptist Church, located at 63388 Mississippi 25, in Smithville, MS., with Bro. Drew Gardner officiating. Friends and family are invited to share in the remembrance of a man who lived fully and impacted many-a true testament to the power of love, service, and family that bridges the gaps of time and space.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of Smithville Baptist Church.

Though Jack has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit, strength and love for others will live on in the stories shared, in the memories of laughter and in the bonds formed across generations. His legacy is a resounding reminder to embrace life, cherish family and friends, and find joy in every moment.
