Col. Howington was my Chief of Detectives at DeKalb for several years. He supported his personnel, and was well respected, a soft-spoken professional and leader with integrity. I remember his retirement being quite emotional for him. Our prayers are with the family.

Col. Howington was a leader and a friend. We weathered some stormy times in the mid 1980s. I enjoyed his company and I learned a great deal from him. Good man go in peace you earned it.

I am proud that I was a friend of Col Jack Howington And lucky that often He was in my chain of command, He was a great man and leader. These words seem hollow and so insufficient compared to the character of the man.

It was an honor to work with Jack at DKPD from 1971-1983, especially in the department's Bomb Squad when it was initially formed. I'll miss you 'Boss.'
