Jack R. Nichols, 84, passed away peacefully July 2, 2025. He was born November 20, 1940 to the late Allen and Mary Ruth Nichols. Jack grew up in the Chattanooga area, graduating from Hixson High School, and enlisted in the United States Army. During his time in the service, he completed 15 jumps as a paratrooper, and his courage to fly high continued throughout his life with his adventurous spirit.
When returning home, he began working at DeSoto Incorporated in Chattanooga and was a member of the Chattanooga Jaycees. Rossville became his home where he raised his family with his loving wife, Nedra. They were members of McFarland United Methodist Church. His family was his pride and joy. He was the first one to be at any family function, school, or sporting event. He enjoyed watching all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren participate in their many activities.
He was a loyal Tennessee Vols fan, but he never hesitated to watch any sports team and usually had a bag of popcorn to enjoy. He loved traveling to the beach and spent many days vacationing with his family. He was an avid golfer and never turned down an opportunity to enjoy a round of golf with family and friends. While the stories are endless, it was his generous heart for taking care of others that will be remembered most. His gentle yet protective spirit always looked out for those around him, and he never met a stranger. He truly was one of a kind.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Mary Ruth Nichols, sister, Emily Wheeler, brother, Charles Nichols, and his wife, Nedra B. Nichols.
He is survived by his four children, Neal (Sherri) Nichols, Sabra (Steve) Elrod, Kevin (Tony) Nichols, and Jennifer (Jason) Pollard; grandchildren, Natalie (Brad) Ryans, Stephanie (Dane) Fehr, Brook (Brian) Day, Ethan (Lyssa) Nichols, and Jack Pollard; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Jake Ryans, Whit and Lucy Fehr, Olivia, Lyla, and Sam Day, and Norah and Lucas Nichols; cousin, Nick Morgan, and several nieces and nephews.
