Jack George Quance

Jack George Quance, born on May 13, 1953, in Croswell, MI to Jack and Elaine (Lonski) Quance, passed away peacefully at home on September 13, 2025. A devoted husband and friend, Jack, lived a life rich with experiences and contributions that left an indelible mark on his community.

During his career, Jack wore many hats, beginning at a young age working on a milk route and in the local supermarket bagging groceries, then as a machinist, courier, fishing guide, and butcher. He also had an entrepreneur’s spirit owning and operating his lawn service for 15 years and the newspaper routes for a decade. His diverse skillset exemplified his hard work and commitment to serving others. Beyond his professional life, Jack was deeply passionate about the outdoors. He cherished time spent in nature, including his love for mushroom hunting, picking wild berries, and pursuing all sorts of wildlife across Canada and the USA with a lifetime of hunting and fishing friends. He truly loved working with his bird dogs throughout his life. They were some of his greatest friends.

Jack was also known for his dedication to youth sports in St. Helen, coaching the St. Helen Youth Baseball team for 15 years, fostering a love of the game in countless young athletes. An avid New York Yankees fan, he often shared his enthusiasm for baseball by traveling to tour various MLB ballparks, and zoos along the way. Jack and his wife spent much of their summer camping throughout Michigan.

A man of giving spirit, Jack generously volunteered for hospice care and the Boy and Girl Scouts for 15 Years. For over three decades, he hosted and supplied fish fry fundraisers, reinforcing his belief in community support and camaraderie. His organizational leadership was highlighted through his roles as the head of the Bluegill Festival Parade for 20 years and as Chairman of the Bluegill Festival Fishing Contest for a decade, along with 15 years as a fireworks volunteer. Additionally, Jack proudly served as the first Commander of the Sons of the American Legion in St. Helen for two years.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Pacek; brother-in-law, Stephen (Ann) Pacek; nephew, Dennis "Buck" (Elizabeth) Niles; and his beloved black lab and hunting partner, Diesel. He was predeceased by his first wife, Diana Quance; father, Jack O. Quance; and mother, Elaine "Potsie" (Lonski) Quance.

The family would like to thank the West Branch Compassus Hospice Team for their care and support through his pancreatic cancer battle.

Jack George Quance will be remembered not only for his many accomplishments but for the warmth he brought to every life he touched. His legacy of compassion, enthusiasm for life's adventures, and commitment to his family and community will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Memorial contributions in the memory of Jack can be made to the Leader Dogs for the Blind located in Rochester Hills, MI.

Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 5-8 PM. The Funeral Service will be on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM until time of service. Buck Niles will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in St. Helen.
