It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack Adam Rantanen, who left this world on Monday, October 20th, 2025, at the age of 25. Born on Friday, August 25th, 2000, in Marquette, Michigan, Jack remained a cherished resident of his hometown throughout his life.
Jack was a beloved son, brother, boyfriend, nephew, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his devoted mother, Amy Rantanen, and her partner, Jim Petschke; his loving father, J. Dan Rantanen; and his dear brother, Jamie Rantanen, all of Marquette. Jack also leaves behind his cherished girlfriend, Jana Hendrickson of Calumet.
His extended family, who held a special place in his heart, includes aunts and uncles, Carrie (Jeff) Magowan, Brad (Becky) Adams, Mary (Karl) Hill, Tracy Klumb, Jim Rantanen, all of Marquette, Jeff Rantanen of Green Bay, WI, Anne (Chris) VanFleet of Naples, FL, and Lisa (Justin) Howe of Grand Rapids. Jack is also survived by his cousins Taylor and Trevor Adams, Jordyn Klumb, Eli and Owen Howe, and Darryl (Liz), Dylann (Eric) Judy, and Emma Rantanen. Jack was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ronald and Barbara Adams, and Darryl and Greta Rantanen, as well as his uncle, Jim Klumb, and aunt, Lynn Adams.
A graduate of Marquette Senior High School in 2018, Jack pursued his passion for electrical work through the Lineman Program at Northern Michigan University. His dedication and hard work led him to a fulfilling career as a Journeyman Lineman with the Hooper Corporation, where he was a proud member of the IBEW Local 876.
Jack had a zest for life and a love for the great outdoors. He found joy in deer hunting at Uncle Jack's special property in Skanee, MI, and was an avid rider of mountain bikes and dirt bikes. Jack was known for his adventurous spirit, often spending time exploring the outdoors, or as he liked to call it, "trapsing." He was also a competitive athlete, playing high school and travel soccer, which showcased his spirited and determined nature.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Brandon Oman officiating. Immediately following the service, A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held at the Ore Dock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Jack's family.
His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Jack's bright spirit and adventurous soul will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the wilderness he so dearly loved.
