Jack Richard Smith, 94, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Weatherwood Personal Care Home, Greensburg, PA with his loving wife, Verna D. Smith by his side in his last moments.

Born April 25, 1931, in Sunbury, PA he was the son of the late Richard Howard and Grace (Page) Smith. On August 4,1956 he married Verna Deibler, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is he survived by three grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Gregory Smith and Michelle Good Wilkinson as well as two great-grandchildren Francis Smith and Willow Wilkinson. He was preceded in passing by his son, William Edward Smith and his daughter, JoAnn Ellen Good. As well as his sisters Helen Lahr and Caroline Gelnett.

Following High School, he entered the United States Army and served our country September 7,1948 through April 6, 1955, in the Korean War.

He retired from Penn State in the Athletic Department. While there he wore many hats such as driver for the president of the university, transportation for incoming students, as well as helping with many of the various sporting events.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting with his son, Bill Smith and had a true love for all things Penn State. He found great joy in racing his great-granddaughter, Willow, with fidgets known as pop-its. He boasted about his great-grandson, Francis, to all who would listen about his successes in basketball. He believed in overcoming life's obstacles through hard work, perseverance and family support.

Graveside service with military honors will held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA with Pastor Paul McReynolds officiating.
