Jack Veasy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alameda Funeral & Cremation Services - Alameda on Mar. 19, 2026.
John "Jack" Veasy

November 5, 1930 – March 16, 2026

Longtime Alameda resident and friend to many

The Veasy family celebrates the life of Jack Veasy, who passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95 after a brief illness. His passing will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and the many in the Alameda community who knew him.

Jack was born in Los Angeles, California, to Harold and Rosanne Veasy and spent most of his life in Alameda. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Terry, who passed away three years earlier. He was also preceded in death by his four siblings.

He is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Gary and Janet Veasy, Greg and Laura Veasy; four grandchildren who loved him dearly and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jack attended St. Joseph Elementary and High Schools. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1952 to 1954 including 5 months of overseas service.

He met Terry in 1955-a day he would later call the best of his life-and they married two years later, sharing nearly seven decades together. Jack built a career as a container designer with Owens-Illinois Glass Company in Oakland, where he earned recognition for his bottle designs. After early retirement, he later worked as a drafter for BART.

A devoted family man, Jack was passionate about coaching youth sports. He coached basketball at St. Philip Neri and later coached his sons in basketball and baseball, leaving a lasting impact on many young athletes. He was also active in Boy Scouts and enjoyed golf as both a challenge and a social pastime.

Jack and Terry enjoyed their many community activities together, including the Elks, the Apicella Club, and the Italian American League as well as the campaigns of his brother-in-law, Chuck Corica. Though often the quieter presence, he was steady, thoughtful, and firm in his convictions.

He also appreciated a good glass of scotch. His family raises one in his honor-a tribute to a devoted family man and genuinely good person.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Alameda, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
