On Monday, August 11, 2025, Jack Douglas Waldrop passed away peacefully at his home in Canton with his family by his side. Jack was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and we give thanks for the 93 full and wonderful years of his life. He has been a blessing to many, and his memory will be cherished forever.
He was born on January 26, 1932, in Haywood County to the late Ansel Waldrop and the late Velma Brown Waldrop Davis. Jack had made his home in Canton all of his life, and he was deeply proud of his mountain roots and family heritage. He was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Canton High School, where he made many friendships that have continued throughout the years.
On August 16, 1951, Jack answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army during the Korean War. As a member of the Army Corps of Engineers, he served with great honor and courage – his dedication and bravery were a testament to the proud veteran he remained throughout his lifetime.
Following his military career, Jack began a long and loyal career with Champion International, where he worked for 36 years with integrity and commitment. Jack's strong work ethic and dedication were indeed an example to follow.
Jack was an outdoorsman at heart. He spent countless hours in the mountains hunting deer, turkey, and grouse, and he also enjoyed casting his fishing line in the waters of his favorite mountain streams every chance he could find. Jack so enjoyed spending time at Lake Fontana during the summer seasons with his family. This is where he taught his children to water ski, and Jack continued skiing himself well into his late 60s. What wonderful, happy memories to hold onto forever! In remembering Jack, we also recall his love for listening to country music and taking some time in the evenings to watch his favorite classic western movies.
Above all, Jack loved his family. Memories of his quiet spirit, his guiding wisdom, and his kind heart will be forever held in the hearts of those who loved and knew him. Jack Douglas Waldrop was a good, honest, and true gentleman who will never be forgotten.
Surviving are his devoted and loving wife, Mary Jo Scott Waldrop of Canton; his children, Elaine Washburn and husband John of Arden, Jacque Conran and husband Brian of Twin Bridges, Montana and Tim Waldrop and wife, Shirley of Chesnee, SC; his grandsons, Russ Albrecht and wife Lindsey and Brett Albrecht and wife Nita; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Micah, and Clara; a brother, Jerry Waldrop and wife, Barbara of Melbourn, Florida; and also Jack's special fur baby, "Bodie".
