Jack P. “Whitey” Yount, Sr., 87, of Hermitage, passed away along with his wife, Shirley Yount, on Monday, February 2, 2026, in his home.
Mr. Yount was born July 27, 1938, in Sharon, a son of the late Oscar and Irene (Brist) Yount. A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Sharon High School in 1956.
A proud veteran, Whitey served in the U.S. Army for three years and was honorably discharged on February 16, 1959.
For over 30 years, he worked as an electrician at Sharon Steel’s former Farrell plant, retiring upon the plant's closing. He later worked in a similar capacity for Trinity Steel in Transfer, PA.
Whitey was a hard worker and enjoyed having a beer with friends.
In 1978, he married his beloved wife, Shirley J. (Haun) Yount, and they enjoyed 47 years together before their passing.
Whitey is survived by three sons, Jack P. Yount, Jr. (Pam), of Georgia, Darrin T. Yount (Diane), of Southington, OH, and Jeffery M. Yount (Lori), of Sharon; a step-son, Richard Crawford, of Johnstown, PA; a brother, Edward Yount (Minerva), of Sharon; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Whitey was preceded in death by his former spouse, Carol S. Hogue-Yount.
In keeping with his wishes, a private burial will take place alongside his wife in Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
Military honors will be rendered by the Wheatland AL and West Middlesex VFW Honor Guard.
