Jackie "Jack" L. Scott died peacefully at home in his sleep on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the age of 97.
Jack enlisted as a teenager in the US Navy during WW II and served for thirty years, ending his career as a Master Chief. His first assignment as a combat aircrewman led to a lifetime interest in aircraft and flight. He was proud of the thousands of hours he spent as a flight engineer in the Super Constellations patrolling the DEW Line. He was even the crew chief on the delivery of one of the Navy's first WV-2 (Willie Victor) early warning Super Constellations, "Big Dipper."
He earned his private pilot's license when he was 20 and flew well into his 80s, only stopping when he could no longer pass the physical exam. After he retired from service, he was active in the NAS Lemoore Flying Club and was its manager for many years.
In addition to flying, Jack enjoyed building model airplanes and compiled a collection of almost every airplane ever flown by the US Navy. He learned to fly fish when he was stationed in Newfoundland and enjoyed fishing wherever he moved, especially fishing at Shaver Lake with friends and family. He was also the family genealogist and kept extensive and meticulous records by searching primary sources, visiting ancestral sites, and corresponding with other family historians.
He leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Ann; daughter, Mary Ann; and grandchildren, John and Laura.
A Rosary is scheduled for September 10th at 11 am at St Peter Prince of Apostles Catholic Church in Lemoore. There will be a reception following the Rosary at noon at the Fleet Reserve Branch 261 in Lemoore. There will be a military burial at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery.
He will be greatly missed.
