Jacob Abraham Bloom

 

Revered entertainment industry attorney Jacob “Jake” Bloom passed away Sept. 7 in his Sun Valley home of natural causes. He was 81 years old.

Born Jacob A. Bloom in Brooklyn, New York, to a physician father and homemaker mother, Bloom attended Columbia College and went on to study law at Cornell University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1968 and began what would be a long and successful career in entertainment law representing esteemed producers and directors, including Jerry Bruckheimer, George Lucas, Charles Roven, John Davis, Larry Gordon, John Hughes, Ron Howard and Brad Bird. He also represented the biggest motion picture and television personalities in the world, including actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, and Jason Patric.

His proudest accomplishment, however, was his 58-year marriage to Ruth Bloom, née Kahlenberg, and their two children, Jason and Rebecca. Bloom was also a committed philanthropist, donating to many foundations and organizations, including The Hunger Coalition and Wood River Jewish Community. Bloom is survived by Ruth, Jason, Rebecca and his grandchildren, Naomi, Alex, Caleb and Theo.
