James Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Royer Funeral Home - Grain Valley on Feb. 5, 2026.
James "Jim" Ernest Brown, 79, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2026. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m.

Jim was born on July 11, 1946, in Grain Valley, Missouri, to Roy and Margaret Brown. He was a lifelong resident of the community he loved and served. For more than 20 years, Jim worked for the City of Grain Valley Parks Department, where his dedication and strong work ethic left a lasting impact.

Jim found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved riding horses, reading western books, driving his truck, and watching sports. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and found great comfort and guidance in reading his Bible. His faith, steady presence, and love for family were central to who he was.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margaret Brown; his beloved wife, Laurel Brown, in 2019; his brothers, Billy Dean Brown and Charles Brown; and his sister, Florene Wiggins.

Jim is survived by his three children: Chris Brown (Starling), Kyle Brown of Grain Valley, Missouri, and Ryan Brown of Hailey, Idaho; his two grandchildren, Jacob and Alisa Brown; his sisters, Margaret Reeder, Mary Morris, and Doris Jean Officer; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, deep faith, love of family, and the kindness he showed to all who knew him.
