Jacob Elgersma Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gibson - Bode Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ltd. - Erie on Mar. 12, 2026.
Jacob G. Elgersma, 71, of East Moline, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center in Silvis, Illinois, surrounded by family. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 3:30 - 6:30 at Grasshoppers Gatherings Event Venue, 208 N Cody Rd, LeClaire IA.

Jake was born on November 29, 1954, in Morrison, Illinois, the son of George and Henrietta (Gruis) Elgersma. He graduated from Erie High School in 1972. Jacob was united in marriage to Vickie Guinn on July 20, 1974, in Erie, Illinois. Jake dedicated 36 years of his career to 3M Company in Cordova, Illinois, where he worked as an electrical supervisor before retiring in 2010.

Jake enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, and playing cards, especially Euchre. He was also a car and tractor enthusiast and always enjoyed talking about them. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play sports, and he loved cheering them on whenever he could. He and Vickie also cherished spending their winters in Arizona, surrounded by close friends and making lasting memories together.

Jake had a gift for conversation and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone-no one was ever a stranger to him. He was known as the friendly, talkative neighbor who always had time to chat and share a story.

Jake shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Henry, who was not only his pet but his best friend. Henry was always right by Jake's side and brought him great joy and companionship.

Jake is survived by his wife, Vickie Elgersma of East Moline; daughter Jeni (Matt) Allison of Rapids City; daughter Nikki (Chris) Sloan of Milan; grandchildren Ethan (Cassie) Allison, Erin (Boomer) Davis, Boston Leighty, Wil Leighty, Owen Allison, Dexter Allison, Jaxson Sloan, and Miles Sloan; brother Robert Elgersma; sister Rita Elgersma; and his beloved dog, Henry. Jake was preceded in death by his parents.
