Jacob Kominsky

Jacob Kominsky passed peacefully on August 24th, 2022, surrounded by his family and the wonderful caring staff at Spring Arbor Assisted Living of Severna Park. Jacob "Jake" Kominsky was born on February 11, 1930, to Louis Kaminsky Sr, a Russian immigrant, and Maria Schmidt, a Czechoslovakian immigrant. He grew up in Groton, Connecticut on a small farm with his six siblings. Jake was the last surviving member of his family. He is proceeded in death by his wives, Anna K. and Anna W. and is survived by his six children; Ruth (Gene) Werner of Tecumseh, Kansas; Robert (Darlene) Kominsky of Valrico, Florida; Patricia (Barry) Waltemyer of Red Lion, Pennsylvania; Ron (Donna) Kominsky of Moyock, North Carolina; Elizabeth (Tom) Jordan of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Evelyn (Art) Klaiss of Pasadena, Maryland as well as 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. In 1948, Jake joined the Army as a mechanic working on armored vehicles. He served two tours of duty in Germany, as well as tours at Camp Carson, Colorado; Ft. Meade, Maryland; Korea; Ft. Richardson, Alaska; and Ft. Riley, Kansas. In 1968, following 20 years of service, Jake retired as a Sergeant First Class at Ft. Riley, Kansas and moved his family back to Glen Burnie, Maryland where he worked for the Federal Communication Commission as a maintenance engineer until he retired in 1993. After converting from the Russian Orthodox faith, Jake became a devout Catholic. He was one of the founding members of the Church of the Crucifixion, where he served as an usher and assisted in many fund-raising activities for the parish. Jake was an active member in the Knights of Columbus, in both the Father McGivney (3rd degree) and Admiral Benson (4th degree) Councils. He was Past Faithful Navigator of both Councils as well as a member of the Color Corps, where he served as Color Corps Commander for many local events and parades. Jake was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where he regularly went to morning mass until health issues prevented him from attending. Jake was a talented craftsman and enjoyed working with wood; making and refurbishing furniture and toys as well as renovating homes. He loved attending local tool shows and getting ideas for projects from woodworking magazines. Jake enjoyed a rich life, filled with family and friends that loved to gather for special events and holidays. Besides his love of traveling with his wife, he had a great love for the outdoors that included camping, fishing, and crabbing. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jake's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Operation Smile or to a local charity of your choice. Please take a moment to raise a toast to Dad (he loved a dry martini or a good bourbon) - may he rest in peace for eternity in the presence of Almighty God. The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral & Cremation Services, P.A., 1 2nd Ave. SW (at Crain Hwy) on Monday, Aug. 29th, from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, 11 AM, at Christ the King Catholic Church (formerly Holy Trinity), 7436 Baltimore & Annapolis Blvd., Glen Burnie, MD 21061.
