Jacob Kenneth Patchen, age 21, tragically passed away on January 11, 2026. He was born on September 2, 2004, in
Berkeley, California, with a head full of hair and big brown eyes that immediately captured the hearts of everyone who met him. His grandfather, lovingly known as "Papa," cut the cord, and from that moment on, Jacob was surrounded by a family who adored him. His big sister, Tayla, was instantly in love with her baby brother, beginning a lifelong bond filled with love and protection.
Jacob was the deeply loved son of Nicholas and Samara, who cherished him beyond words. From his first breath to his final moments, Jacob was wrapped in unwavering love, pride, and devotion. He knew without question how deeply his parents loved him, and that love shaped the kind, generous, and compassionate young man he became.
Above all else, Jacob was a devoted and loving father to his 14-month-old daughter, Riven, who was the absolute center of his world. Becoming a father was one of Jacob's greatest joys and proudest accomplishments. He loved Riven fiercely and tenderly, and his life revolved around providing for her, protecting her, and making her smile.
Jacob was an incredible brother-protective, playful, and deeply caring. He shared special bonds with each of his siblings. He enjoyed gaming with his little brother or simply driving around together, listening to music. He also loved going out to eat or just hanging out with his sisters, treasuring those everyday moments spent together. Jacob was often the comedic relief, quick to make them laugh, and fiercely protective of his siblings, always watching out for them and standing by their side.
Jacob had a builder's mind and was a big kid at heart. He was intelligent, curious, and incredibly gifted with his hands-able to take things apart and put them back together like nobody's business. Whether he was building a computer from scratch or spending hours creating with Legos, Jacob loved figuring out how things worked. He was goofy, quick-witted, and had a contagious sense of humor that could light up any room. He enjoyed going to the casino, was a true foodie with a special love for Mexican food, and found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Most importantly, Jacob loved Jesus and lived his life with faith and a generous heart. He was always ready to help others, often putting their needs before his own. His kindness, compassion, and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Jacob is survived by his parents, Nicholas and Samara; his beloved daughter, Riven; his grandparents, Virginia and William; his siblings; his uncle Nicholas and wife Gina; his aunt Jessica and husband Gary; his longtime girlfriend and best friend, Elliana; and many cousins and extended family members who loved him dearly.
A visitation for Jacob will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
Jacob's life, though far too short, was filled with love, purpose, and meaning. He will be forever missed, forever loved, and forever remembered.
