On January 5, 2024, Jacob Paul Pothier passed away unexpectedly as a result of a fatal car accident. Since Jacob could sit up, he could catch a ball. He was an amazing son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and athlete. He was in the midst of his Junior year at Greater New Bedford Voc Tech working on his carpentry trade. He was a member of the Varsity Football team and played for No Off Season travel Football.
Jacob was born on December 22, 2005 in Wareham, MA and raised in New Bedford, MA. Jacob is survived by his parents, Stacey Pothier of New Bedford and Jason Pothier of Acushnet, and his siblings, Tiffani Pothier, Kaylee Pereira, Tyler Pereira, Olivia Pothier, and Ethan Pothier, all of New Bedford, MA. Jacob is also survived by his grandparents, Norman and Debra Letendre of New Bedford, MA, and Paul and Nancy Pothier of Myrtle Beach, SC. He is survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins who are all at a loss as to how to process the loss of Jacob so suddenly. While Jacob has many friends and teammates who are missing him, his best friend, Odilio Benique, is like another member of the family to Jacob and his siblings.
As his family grieves this tragic and sudden loss, hearing how nice he was to fellow students and how his smile was noticed by all, is of comfort to the family and friends who cherished the time that they had with Jacob. The outpouring of sympathy and support is appreciated and gives some solace to the family during this difficult time.
His visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 11th from 3-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 12th at 10 AM in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Everyone will meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please donate to No Off Season Elite Football so other youth can benefit from this opportunity, but may not be able to afford it. No Off Season, 79 Brook Street, New Bedford MA 02745 https://nooffseason.org/elite7v7

Something that I will always remember about Jacob is that he was a great friend and a great athlete. He was a beast on and off of the field. Fly High JP

I Never really talked to him but I went to school with him and his brother Ethan and his sister Olivia and I just know that he was the kindest person ever and I also shared a class with him freshman year and he was one of the nicest people ever and would do his best to make everyone around him smile and have a great time.

I am a neighbor that actually bought his grandparents house. He was always polite and respectful to my wife and I. We are heartbroken for his families loss.

I only was in contact with Jacob twice, but he always knew how to make the room full of smiles with his jokes and his personality. Jacob welcomed anyone without judging them on who they are. So i'm really sorry that we lost such a good person like Jacob. I wish nothing but love and care during this time for the family and the rest of his friends. Rest Easy Jacob you will be missed.
