Jacob F. "Jackie" Shafer, 86, passed away peacefully on his couch on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

In accordance with his wishes, Jake's family will honor his life privately.

Jacob was born in Syracuse on June 28, 1939, to Jacob and Bertha Shafer. He graduated from high school and went on to join the United States Army. He served in Germany as an artilleryman on the inner German border after World War II.

In 1988, Jacob married Sharon Wing in West Monroe, NY. He dedicated over 35 years working for Carrier Corporation in Syracuse before moving to Florida for a short time. While in Florida he worked at a Golf Course which was very fitting, and eventually ended up at Avis Rent A Car when he returned to New York.

Jacob was an avid golfer. Every summer he played on two leagues in West Monroe. Besides golf, he enjoyed fishing on Oneida lake. Jake always made sure his candy dish was full, and that you never left without a piece of chocolate for the road. His sense of humor, and sometimes stubborn personality will definitely be missed.

Predeceasing Jacob is his parents; Jacob and Bertha Shafer, and a stepdaughter; Sandra Owen.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of over 36 years; Sharon, his stepchildren; Tommy Owen and Barbara Bisson, his siblings; Janet Piraiano and Richard Shafer, his grandchildren; Patricia Schwartz, Amanda (Tylor) Cuppernell, Shawn Calabria, Tommy Owen and Aaron Owen, as well as 7 great grandchildren and his dog; Teddy.
