With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Jacobo "Jake" Baca, who went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2026, at the age of 69. Services will take place at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 13, 2026, starting with a Visitation at 9:00 a.m., and a Celebration of Life at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Jake passed away peacefully while in hospice care at the loving home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jean and Russell Piersol, surrounded by the warmth and care of family.
Jake was born on January 27, 1957, to Simon and Bernardina Baca. He lived a life filled with joy, kindness, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone who knew him. Jake had a face of innocence and a glimmering smile that could melt any heart. His laughter and playful, mischievous personality brought light and happiness wherever he went. He had a special way of greeting everyone with an infectious smile and a heartfelt "How are you?" that made people feel seen and valued.
Jake spent many years living at El Mirador Group Home, where he shared his life with his special brothers and was cared for by many wonderful staff who became dear friends. During that time, Jake built meaningful relationships and created lasting memories with those around him.
Throughout his life, Jake enjoyed being active and involved. He proudly participated in the Special Olympics for swimming, earning many awards and accomplishments that brought him great pride. In later years, he also loved playing basketball, bowling, and spending time with friends and family. Jake's happy-go-lucky nature and loving heart made him someone people naturally gravitated toward.
Jake is preceded in death by his father Simon and his mother Bernardina Baca; his grandparents, Luciano and Rosenda Baca; his brother, Simonsisto Baca; his sisters, Shirley and Dolores Baca; and several aunts and uncles who welcomed him home.
He leaves behind many loved ones who will forever cherish his memory: His sister Senovia Baca and her two children; his sister and brother-in-law Mary Jean and Russell Piersol, their four children and seven grandchildren; his brother Ricky Baca, his two children and two grandchildren; his brother-in-law Philip Baca and his two daughters and two grandchildren; Jake is also survived by his uncle Wilfred and aunt Donna; aunt Viola Gabaldon; and aunt Eva Hogue. Along with many cousins and extended family members who loved him dearly.
Jake's life was a beautiful reminder of unconditional love, joy, and the simple power of a smile. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Jake will truly be missed, leaving each of us with special memories and the lasting gift of his gentle and loving spirit.
We would extend our gratitude to Roadrunner hospice team who provided the care and comfort to Jake and our family during this difficult time.
