AUBURN – Jacqueline M. Bate, passed peacefully with much love the early morning hours of February 28, 2026 at Schooner Memory Care where she had resided since July, 2024.
Born on October 12, 1944, Jacqueline "Jackie" Bate was the eldest of 3 children born to Francois P Methot, MD and Cecile Methot. For her early education, she attended both St. Dominic's and Saint Joseph's College. After she completed college in 1966, she became a teacher in the Lewiston School District where she met her future husband, John E. Bate who was a lifelong educator. Married in August of 1966, they had two children, Karen and John.
Jacqueline felt the overwhelming need to continue her education and enrolled in the nursing program at Central Maine Medical Center. In 1981, she graduated first in her class, also receiving the President's Award for outstanding academic achievement. She discovered her life's passion as a Registered Nurse in the Maternity Department at Central Maine Medical Center. In 1992, Jacqueline became certified as an inpatient Obstetrics Nurse (RNC), and in 1996 became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She also became certified as a Legal Nurse Consultant to further support those in need. Helping mothers and their babies was her life's purpose
.After almost 22 years in Obstetrical Nursing, she became a telephonic Health Coach at Health Dialog in Portland in January, 2003. She expanded her nursing knowledge while coaching patients from all over the country that were afflicted with many different ailments and diseases. In 2008, as she was proficiently bi-lingual in English and French, she was selected to be part of a small team to live in France and teach French nurses to become health coaches. Most of her time was spent in Albi in Southwest France near Toulouse and Nice on the Mediterranean which she absolutely loved.
Her husband John passed in 1996 after a lengthy battle with brain cancer but Jackie remained strong for her children. Jackie then met who became her lifelong companion, Robert Thompson. They enjoyed traveling, reading, music, and spend almost 30 years together. Robert passed of dementia on December 12, 2023
.
In 2022, Jacqueline was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was lovingly cared for by her children and the wonderful staff at Schooner Memory Care and later, Andwell Hospice.
Jacqueline was pre-deceased by her husband, John E. Bate, a brother, Claude Methot, her long-term partner, Robert Thompson, and her parents.
Jackie will be remembered by her larger than life smile, generosity, her incredible cooking skills, passion for knitting, and mostly, the great love and support she bestowed on her children and grandchildren. There was never a moment that her children didn't know how much she loved them.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Karen Bate, Granddaughter, Jillian and husband, Nathan Lyons and her soon to be born first great grandchild, Ryder Jack, due in April 2026. A son, and daughter in law, John F. Bate, wife Erin Demars and their children, Ava, Isabelle, and Johnny. From Virginia, a sister, Suzanne Auble, Niece, Renay Galati, husband Michael and their daughter, AnneMarie Galati.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Schooner Memory Care for their care and love of Jackie. Especially, Kaitlyn, Sabrina, Paulette, Vanessa, Joe, Nakoma, Valerie & Erica who were with her until the end and lovingly cared for her after.

Services honoring Jackie will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn in the Spring. Time and date to be announced.
