Jacqueline Margaret Kapala age 89 of Alpena, formerly of Grand Lake passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at Turning Brook in Alpena on July 31, 2025.
She was born in Rogers City on November 8, 1935, to John and Margaret (Zempel) Wirgau.
Jackie graduated from Rogers City High School in 1954. On April 30, 1955, she married Edmund Kapala at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. She worked side by side with her husband at Mel's Market until their retirement in 1992. Following retirement, they moved to their home on Grand Lake where they enjoyed fishing, yard work and being together on the lake with family.
Jackie is survived by three children, Kurt (Ruth) Kapala of Grand Lake, Kevin (Sally) Kapala of Grand Lake and Gretchen Gordon of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Chad (Rachel) Kapala, Aaron Kapala, Simone (Levi) Hincka, Camille (Jamie) Schultz and Christopher Gordon; great grandchildren, Bentley, Bryce, Olivia, Colton, Renee and Ross; and a brother-in-law, James (Del) Kapala.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; one grandson, Joshua Gordon; son-in-law, Chuck Gordon; siblings, Mert, Vi, Ivan, Betty, Potsy, June and Joyce; sister-in-law, Irene (Bill) Yule.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Saturday, August 9th from 12-noon through time of her memorial service at 1:00 p.m.
Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Turning Brook of Alpena or Hospice Compassus in memory of Jackie Kapala.
