Jacqueline (Jackie) Kay Millard, age 79 of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October, 16, 2025 with her children at her side. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
Jackie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Christina and Mark Smith, her son and daughter-in-law Robert L. Millard Jr. and Hatti J. Millard, and her sisters and brother-in-laws Susan and Jon Verik and Pamela and John Peltier. Jackie cherished her six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and her beloved nieces and nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) L. Millard Sr., her parents Laurell and Lois Julius, her brothers James Leonard, Frederic Julius, and sister Pennie Smith.
Jackie was born on December 1, 1945 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. In 1950 her family moved to Denver, Colorado, later buying a house in Evergreen, Colorado. She was president of her Junior High School Student Council and later was a Jobs Daughter Queen. She met Robert when she was working at the local A&W Restaurant. Jackie graduated from Evergreen High School in 1963. She attended Ft. Lewis College in Durango, Colorado for a year majoring in accounting and business. After their marriage Jackie and Bob continued their life in Evergreen. In addition to being a homemaker Jackie worked part time at the Evergreen National Bank for a few years. In later years she was the bookkeeper and dispatcher for a local towing company. After their children had grown Jackie and Bob moved to Payson, Arizona in 1989 where Jackie worked at the local Dairy Queen and later at the Cracker Crate antique store.
Jackie was well known for her happy nature, easy smile and positive outlook. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and went above and beyond for her family. She earned the nickname "Smiley" when working as a towing dispatcher in Evergreen due to her ability to always sound happy even when answering the telephone in the middle of the night.
In her retirement Jackie's passion project was working with her daughter Christina to publish the memoir and archive of American Western Artist Robert O. Lindneux who was Robert L. Millard Sr.'s grandfather. Jackie contributed tireless research, detailed documentation and editing advice to the project. Her daughter Christina plans to continue working on this project in Jackie's honor.
