Jacqueline E. Proios, known affectionately as Jackie to her loved ones, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, in
Southampton, NY. Born Jacqueline Comitto on October 28, 1941, in
Warwick, NY, she was a beacon of warmth and love throughout her 82 years of life.
Jackie will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Michael G. Proios, with whom she shared a beautiful and enduring love story. Together, they built a life filled with joy and cherished moments. She was the proud mother of Grenardo L. Avellino and his wife Theresa, Anthony M. Avellino and his wife Jennifer. Jackie's role as a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she doted on her grandchildren, Rose (Brian), Louis (Emma), Joseph, Ashleigh, and Michael, with a boundless love that knew no limits.
Her brother, Charles "Butch" and his wife Judy, along with her sister Sandy, will remember Jackie for her unyielding support and the laughter they shared. The family bond was a central part of her life, and she nurtured it with every fiber of her being. Together, they created a tapestry of familial love that extended to a host of nieces and nephews, each benefiting from Jackie's generous spirit and wise counsel.
Jackie had several interests and talents that she shared with the world. Jackie's passion for cooking was renowned among her family and friends. She could cook or bake any recipe to perfection. She was always ready with a package of her famous cookies or biscotti to send to anyone in need. Aside from her prowess in the kitchen, Jackie had a green thumb that brought beauty to the world. Her orchids, flowers and vegetable gardens were the envy of many, which connected her to her childhood on the farm. Jackie was also keenly in tune with animals. She would feed any stray and spend time appreciating all the small things in nature.
Jackie was an avid reader and has accumulated an extensive library. She also enjoyed spending time in her studio, where she developed a love of painting. Her paintings are cherished by family and friends and shared at numerous church events. She loved her faith as an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton, where she was actively involved. Jackie also enjoyed time with friends, playing dominoes, going to Yoga and having lunch. One of the joys of her days was shopping. She loved finding just the right gift for a loved one and was elated when she found the best deal in town.
Raising her family was Jackie's life's work, and she approached it with unwavering commitment and grace. Her children and grandchildren are a living legacy of her kindness, strength, and spirit. Each carries a piece of her wisdom and love, which will continue to guide and inspire them throughout their lives.
As we bid farewell to Jacqueline E. Proios, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was. Her memory will be treasured in the hearts of her family, friends, and those fortunate enough to have known her. Jackie's life leaves a love that will endure through the generations.
