Jacquelyn Grote Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri - Prairie Village on Mar. 20, 2026.
Jacquelyn Grote passed away March 18, 2026 in her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in St. Louis, MO on December 6, 1940 to Oliver and Agnes Long. Jacquelyn graduated from Nerinx Hall in 1958. As a young adult, she moved to Chicago and worked as an X-ray technician at Mount Sinai Hospital. It was there that she met Marvin Grote, a medical student who was in need of an x-ray who became the love of her life. They married on September 22, 1967 and celebrated their 58 th anniversary last fall. They lived in Washington, D.C., St. Louis, and Milford, CT before settling down and raising their family in Quincy, Illinois.

Jacque was a devoted wife, mom and member of her community. She volunteered with the PTA, medical auxiliary, CASA and the Temple B'nai Shalom Synagogue sisterhood. She was an active swim mom and dance mom for their two daughters and earned the moniker Super Mom from her elder daughter's college roommates. She and Marv also traveled extensively, enjoying vacations across the US and throughout Europe.

Losing her father to a heart attack when she was only 14 left a lasting impact on her. Throughout her life she was known for her warm smile, kindness and compassion, helping family, friends, and even strangers who needed extra support as they navigated life's difficult moments. She was also resilient and determined as she faced her own challenges.

Jacque and Marv retired to Tucson where they enjoyed the next phase of their life together. Jacque was president of the Niners Club at Ventana Canyon and was an avid golfer until injuries sidelined her. She was a beloved and engaged grandmother, always game to join in the fun when together and staying up to date on her grandchildren's lives when they weren't.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, her daughters Judith Deedy (Matthew) and Gwendolyn Paine, grandchildren Kathleen, Anne and Evan Deedy and Tesfaye and Jude Paine and her niece Laura Fitzpatrick (Kevin) and their children along with her cat Bob and many friends from throughout her life. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of your choice, particularly those that help women and children.
