Jaime Martinez was born on September 14, 1959, in Weslaco, Texas to Panfilo and Joaquina (Guerrero) Martinez. He passed from this world on February 11, 2024, in Longview, Texas.
Jaime was a 1977 graduate of Gravette High School in Gravette, Arkansas. Growing up, Jaime was a dedicated and decorated Future Farmer of America. While holding an FFA officer position and earning state awards and recognition, Jaime gained valuable experience alongside his father in the fields of Razorback Farms in Maysville, Arkansas.
Jaime was born and raised in the Catholic Church and was proud to receive all of his sacraments as a young man in Oklahoma and Arkansas parishes. Jaime would go on to join the Knights of Columbus as a 4th Degree member and hold office as the youngest Faithful Navigator in the state of Texas.
Jaime started his career with AEP/SWEPCO in 1981 when he was hired at the Flint Creek Power Plant in Gentry, Arkansas as a pumper. In 1984, Jaime was transferred to a brand new plant in Hallsville, Texas. Jaime would be one of the few men who would be there for the opening and closing of H.W. Pirkey Power Plant. At the time of his retirement in 2023, Jaime held the title of Senior Scrubber Supervisor.
Cementing his roots in Texas, Jaime soon met Charlene Ray Stoute during a game night in the community where they both lived. The couple were married August 1, 1987 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Longview, Texas.
Jaime was an avid angler, collecting numerous rods and reels and entering countless fishing tournaments over the years - one of his favorites being the Skeeters Owners Tournament.
Jaime was a man of many words. He always had a story to tell and those stories almost always ended with his audience in belly laughs. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, his Ford trucks and spending time with family and friends. Jaime was like no other. He was playful, particular and proud.
Jaime was preceded in death by his parents, Panfilo and Joaquina Maritnez; one brother, Orlando Martinez; brother-in-law, Randy Webster; parents-in-law, Charlie and Melba Stoute; brother-in-law, Scott Stoute; sister-in-law, Donna Stoute.
Jaime is survived by wife, Charlene Martinez; three sisters, Anita Scates (Maysville, AR); Irene Webster (Linden, TX); Noelia Martinez-Thomas (Sallisaw, OK); two brothers, Lehn Charles Martinez (Jay, OK) and Joe Martinez and wife, Michelle (Hiwasse, AR); sister-in-law, Carla Martinez (Gravette, AR); brother-in-law, Greg Stoute and wife, Melba (Houston, TX); six nephews, eight nieces, several great-nephews and nieces, a crew of cousins and numerous former coworkers of AEP/SWEPCO.
Mass of Christian Burial for Jaime Martinez, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Pallbearers will include: Gregg Mars, Pat Allee, Bobby Bining, David Green, Charlie Green, Mark Wright, Charles Collins, Mike Fleener. Honorary Pallbearers: All Pirkey Power Plant Crew. A rosary will be recited beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary until 7:00 p.m..

I remember Jaime in the 80's when we lived in Longview. I often wonder what happened to the many good people that I knew in Longview so many years ago. Jaime was one of them. Jaime was friendly and genuine. His family has my condolences.

My first memory of Jaime was a big truck pulling into my driveway and this very big man got out. My husband went over and shook his hand. I thought how small you look Greg next to that man. Then he came over and shook my hand and smiled. He had a great smile. I will alway remember your smile Jaime. Miss you, Julie Cullifer
