It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son Jake Riley Bergquist who left us far too soon at the age of 19. Jake passed away in the early morning hours of July 12, 2025, in Bismarck at his home. It is an unexpected tragedy for us all.
Jake was born December 29, 2005 and raised in Bismarck and lived a life full of love, light, and laughter. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend—someone who lit up every room he walked into. With his infectious sense of humor, outgoing nature, and impeccable style, Jake had a gift for making everyone feel seen and cared for.
He loved his friends, his family, his boyfriend Logan, his dogs, and most of all, caring for others. That passion led him to pursue nursing, earning a full-ride scholarship to the University of Mary Nursing Academy where he was excelling in their nursing program. A dedicated and bright student, Jake graduated from Legacy High School in 2024 and was among the top of his class. Along with that he also graduated with an associate degree in science from Bismarck State College that same week. Jake made a meaningful impact working at local elder care homes and at Sanford in Bismarck as a CNA where his kindness and compassion shone through.
Jake is survived by his parents, Rita and Roy Bergquist; siblings Ashton, Nash, and Bryer; his nephew Tobias; his grand parents Randy and Betty Haugen, his grandmother Mary Jo and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is reunited in heaven with his Grandpa Rick and all of his great-grandparents.
A memorial/celebration of Jake’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 16, from 5–7 with memories being shared at 7 pm at Parkway Funeral Home in Bismarck. His funeral and continued celebration of life will take place on Thursday, July 17, at 11 AM, also at Parkway.
*We kindly ask that attendees do not wear black, in honor of Jake’s bright spirit.
Please keep Jake’s memory, love, and light alive. We were all so incredibly blessed to know someone so selfless, compassionate, loving, and kind.
We all Love you Jakey ♥
