Jake "Randy" Nelson, age 83, passed away on February 6, 2024, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 3, 1940, in Douglas, GA and had lived in Reidsville most of his life.

Randy attended Reidsville High School where he graduated in the Class of 1958. During his senior year at Reidsville, he was the quarterback for the football team and led them to their one and only undefeated regular season in the history of the school.   He would go on to earn a bachelor's degree from North Georgia College and proudly served on the Honor Guard there. Randy's commitment to education extended beyond his time at college. He became a teacher and football coach, inspiring countless students through his guidance both inside and outside the classroom.

His vibrant career further blossomed when he became a National Sales Director with Primerica. Randy's entrepreneurial spirit led him to form a subsidiary called Nelson International. True to its name, the company expanded internationally under Randy's visionary leadership. Notably, he became the first licensed agent in Canada and left an indelible mark on the world of financial services.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Randy had a zest for life that was contagious. Known for his warm personality and charisma, he was a born salesperson who could light up any room he entered. Moreover, Randy shared his passion for coaching by dedicating time to coaching others in various areas of life.

Randy found joy in simple pleasures such as grilling, playing tennis, going for walks and runs, as well as attending college football games. However, nothing brought him greater happiness than cheering on his grandchildren during their sports events. He cherished those moments deeply and took pride in being an involved and supportive grandfather.

Randy was a member of the Reidsville Lions Club and the Jaycees, both organizations dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. His generosity and commitment to serving others were further evident through his involvement as a Sunday School teacher and his long-standing membership in the Reidsville United Methodist Church (Grace Pointe Reidsville Church). He was also deeply engaged with Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) and the Methodist Men, using these platforms to connect with others and nurture his faith.

Randy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert Merrill and Ione Christine Dowdy Nelson, as well as his brother Bobby Nelson.

Randy is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lillian Nelson of Reidsville; his children, Todd (Kathy) Nelson of Statesboro and Casey Nelson Flor (Chris) of Atlanta; siblings, Mary (Eddie) Tatum of Seneca, SC, and Martha Folley of Augusta; sister in law, Vicki Rimes Nelson of Glennville; grandchildren, Taylor Nelson, Merrill Nelson Burke (Taylor), Jake Nelson, John Flor, and Paul Flor; great-grandson, Brooks Burke; several nieces and nephews

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Grace Pointe Reidsville Church.  Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm with Mr. Jackie Trim officiating.  Interment will be in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Flor, Paul Flor, Jake Nelson, Chris Flor, Taylor Burke and Dusty James.

Honorary pallbearers will the members of the Reidsville High School Class of 1958 and Primerica Associates.
